I've recently been transferred within the auspices of Union Institute & University to be the Marketing and Admissions Director for the newly formed Vermont College of Fine Arts. It's an exciting time, and once the sale goes through--hopefully in April--I will become a part of the first college in the country devoted exclusively to low-residency fine arts learning. As a graduate of the MFA in Writing Program I know how powerful these programs are and I'm grateful to be a part of this new venture.

What makes the programs at Vermont College of Fine Arts so good?

Oh my, have you got a week? Well, all of them can be done while you continue to work and live your life. You can earn a terminal degree (such a dramatic sounding term, don't you think?) in two years. I did mine while working full time with a child a husband and an old draft house. Also, as a writer so much of the time I create is spent alone, the residencies allowed me to spend 10 days with a community of writers, going to workshops, attending lectures and hearing some spectacular guest readers. Then you go off and do your work from home, sending packets off to your faculty adviser. Really, it's like having private lessons and a professional editor all wrapped up in one!

It was a life and craft changing experience for me, I only wish it could have lasted longer. The faculty are outstanding. And this is all true of the MFA visual art and writing for children programs as well.

Can you see why this is going to be an easy job for me? It is easy to sell something you feel strongly about.
